Drug-Free Council of Alto High School Complete Project Sticker Shock

The Drug-Free Council of Alto High School, funded by a grant from TxDOT, recently participated in the annual Project Sticker Shock campaign covering Angelina, Polk and Southern Cherokee County. Project Sticker Shock is a community awareness campaign that aims to make adults aware of the dangers and consequences of providing alcohol to minors. The Alto High School Drug-Free Council members stickered packages of alcohol at Brookshire Brothers #22 + Tobacco Barn (425 N Main St) and EXXON/Truckerz #1 (1204 W 6th St) in Rusk, TX. These stickers provided information on the consequences for purchasing alcohol for minors: one year in jail, a $4,000 fine, and/or a suspended driver’s license for 6 months.

Teens who start drinking before the age of 15 are four times more likely to develop dependence later in life than those who wait to drink until the age of 21 or older. With prom and other end-of-school-year events approaching, the Drug-Free Council members of Alto High School want everyone in the community to be aware of the dangers of underage drinking and the consequences of adults buying alcohol for minors.

The Coalition, Inc. would like to thank Brookshire Brothers and other retailers for participating in this year’s Project Sticker Shock. Since 1988, The Coalition has focused on eliminating the use of harmful substances by affecting public policy, laws, attitudes and behaviors, all in an effort to foster healthy life-long choices for the local community. Drug-Free Council members are students who elect to be alcohol, drug and tobacco-free and conduct activities within their school to promote a substance-free life.
