The Drug-Free Council of Corrigan-Camden High School, funded by a grant from TxDOT, recently participated in Holiday Project Sticker Shock in Corrigan, Texas. The holiday-themed Project Sticker Shock is a community awareness campaign focused on preventing drinking and driving during the holiday season, a time when alcohol-related crashes increase significantly.
In Texas, there is an estimated 95% increase in alcohol-related crashes during the holiday period compared to non-holidays. To address this issue, Holiday Project Sticker Shock encourages responsible decision-making and raises awareness of the serious consequences of driving under the influence. During the campaign, Drug-Free Council members Lillian McGinty and Mareli Felipe placed warning stickers on packages of alcohol at Brookshire Brothers and other local businesses in Corrigan. The stickers served as a reminder for community members to plan ahead, designate a sober driver, and make safe transportation choices during holiday celebrations. The Coalition, Inc. would like to thank Brookshire Brothers and participating Corrigan retailers for supporting Holiday Project Sticker Shock.
Since 1988, The Coalition has focused on reducing substance misuse by influencing public policy, laws, attitudes, and behaviors while promoting healthy, lifelong choices within the community. Drug-Free Council members are students who elect to be alcohol, drug and tobacco-free and conduct activities within their school to promote a substance-free life.
